One of the UK's largest and most complex infrastructure projects required a scalable approach to confined space and working at height training. With thousands of workers operating on site and confined space activities forming a significant operational risk, the client needed training that was not only compliant but also relevant to the specific environments personnel would encounter.

Breathe Safety worked closely with the project team to develop and deliver bespoke training facilities designed to replicate the types of confined spaces encountered on site. By creating realistic training environments within the project location, candidates could gain practical experience relevant to their work while avoiding the time and cost associated with travelling to external training centres.

Two dedicated training facilities were designed, installed and operated to support the long-term needs of the project. The facilities enabled workers to practise skills in environments that closely mirrored live site conditions, helping to improve competence, confidence and preparedness before entering operational work areas.

Beyond training delivery, Breathe Safety became actively involved in supporting the project's wider confined space safety strategy. Our specialists participated in collaborative working groups and committees focused on managing confined space risks, sharing best practices and helping contractors address operational challenges.

This collaborative approach also extended to the review and development of confined space policies and procedures, ensuring that training, operational requirements and site standards remained closely aligned throughout the life of the project.

Over the course of the engagement, more than 2,500 candidates have been trained through programmes aligned to recognised industry standards. Training has also been delivered using approved translation support where required, helping ensure accessibility for personnel from a range of backgrounds while maintaining training quality and consistency.

By combining realistic practical training with long-term collaboration and technical expertise, Breathe Safety has helped support the development of a safer and more competent workforce on one of the country's most significant construction projects.
