A major UK ship repair and engineering facility required a reliable solution for supplying breathing-quality air to personnel working in high-hazard environments.

Following a consultancy visit, our team assessed the application and recommended a BAC-E breathing air compressor with integrated AirTrack AQ monitoring. The solution was designed to provide a continuous supply of compliant breathing air while giving users real-time assurance that air quality remained within required standards.

The value of the system was demonstrated shortly after deployment when diesel-powered equipment was positioned near the compressor intake. Exhaust fumes were drawn towards the system, causing air quality to fall outside the limits of EN12021. The AirTrack AQ monitor immediately detected the issue, automatically switched the system to its backup air supply and activated an alarm, helping to protect personnel from potentially contaminated breathing air.

The equipment was delivered, installed and commissioned on-site, providing compliant breathing air within an hour of arrival. Our team also delivered user handover training and formal competency sign-off to ensure operators could use the equipment safely and confidently from day one.

Outcomes

  • Continuous supply of breathing-quality air compliant with EN12021 standards.
  • Automatic detection and response to air contamination events.
  • Rapid deployment and commissioning on site.
  • User training and formal sign-off completed at handover.

The Breathe Difference

Many suppliers can provide breathing air equipment. We focus on delivering a solution that balances safety, operational efficiency and practicality in the real world.

In this project, Breathe Safety combined consultancy, intelligent air quality monitoring, rapid mobilisation and user training to ensure personnel had access to compliant breathing air without slowing down critical work.

When site conditions changed unexpectedly, the system identified the risk and responded automatically before personnel were exposed. It's an example of how we help clients maintain high safety standards while keeping projects moving and avoiding unnecessary complexity.
