Industry: Offshore Energy & Decommissioning
Location: North East England
Date: 2022
A major offshore decommissioning project required an urgent solution to support welding activities following a regulatory review. The project was operating under significant time pressure, with any delay to implementation carrying substantial commercial and operational consequences.
Breathe Safety was mobilised at short notice to provide a specialist breathing air, gas detection and safety standby solution that allowed critical work to continue safely while meeting compliance requirements.
Within 24 hours of the initial request, specialist equipment and personnel were deployed to site. The solution included multiple breathing air compressors, breathing air trailers, gas detection equipment and dedicated breathing apparatus standby personnel to support welding operations across the decommissioning project.
One of the key challenges was the complex layout of the structure itself. Working locations were spread across different levels and areas, creating logistical difficulties for breathing air supply and personnel access. To overcome this, extended breathing air lines were used to provide workers with safe access to remote work locations while maintaining a continuous supply of compliant breathing air.
Dedicated breathing apparatus standby personnel were responsible for supporting entries, monitoring operations, managing equipment and coordinating breathing air logistics across the site. Their presence helped ensure equipment remained operational and available throughout the project.
The project also required a flexible approach to gas detection. By combining owned and rental equipment, Breathe Safety delivered a cost-effective solution tailored to the specific demands of the work, ensuring the correct level of monitoring was maintained without unnecessary expenditure.
Throughout the project, implementation took place under close scrutiny, making reliability, responsiveness and technical expertise critical factors in the successful delivery of the work. By rapidly developing and deploying an integrated solution, Breathe Safety enabled the client to continue operations safely while avoiding costly disruption to the project schedule.
